Scholarships

A list of scholarships funded through CORE is below, with the requirements for each in the dropdown.

  • The Drew Bahr Good Citizen Award was established in 2018 by family and friends of Drew, Rolla’s #1 Good Citizen. Drew demonstrates on a daily basis the true meaning of good citizenship to his alma mater, RHS, and his community. The award will be presented annually to a RHS graduating senior who demonstrates the following qualities: a positive attitude, helpfulness, responsibility and dependability, leadership, and provides service to the community

  • The Carin Allen Memorial Scholarship was established in 2014 by the parents of Lisa and Kelly Ma in memory of Mrs. Carin Allen, who taught Latin at Rolla High School for 12 years and was the Latin Club sponsor and co-sponsor of the National Honor Society. Mr. and Mrs. Allen were tragically killed October 10th in a car accident while traveling to see family in Sedalia. The Ma family wishes to honor her memory and the excellence in education of Rolla High School educators. The foreign language teachers will assist in making the selection of the recipient of this scholarship.

  • This scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of Dr. Albert E. Bolon, a 1957 graduate of Rolla High School. The scholarship will be awarded to a student intending to major in Physics. If there are none, the award will go, in order of preference, to a student intending to major in nuclear engineering, chemistry, or a related field in math, science, or engineering.

  • The D. Kent & Sandy King Educational Scholarship was established to grant a scholarship to a Rolla High School student who is planning a career in either elementary or secondary education. The student must have participated in extracurricular activities, been a good citizen and made contributions to Rolla High School and the community. Dr. King, as the former superintendent of the Rolla Schools and as the late Missouri Commissioner of Education for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education knew that to have successful students you need to have passionate and dedicated teachers, therefore this scholarship is granted to a student majoring in education.

  • Each year, 3 Rolla High School students will be awarded a scholarship from the Carolyn L. Holt Trust. One student will be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and majoring in the business or financial field. A second scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution with a major in engineering, and a third scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the nursing program at Rolla Technical Center. All recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.75.

  • The Sandra M. Perdue Memorial Baseball Scholarship, to be known informally as ‘The Sandy Award’, was established in 2008. Sandy passed away on June 9, 2008, after suffering cardiac arrest at a Rolla High School baseball game. She was the consummate “baseball mom”. The recipient must be a member of the RHS baseball team, must have exhibited outstanding character as a student/athlete, demonstrated a positive ‘team player’ attitude, and must have shown consistency of effort and determination to succeed, on and off the field.

  • The recipient must attend a college or university in Missouri to pursue a degree in elementary education. The recipient must be a good leader who is interested in good citizenship, able to empathize with others, and has a strong desire and commitment to prepare young people well in the basic skills of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and arithmetic.

  • Dr. Spooner was a geographer with the U.S.G.S. in Rolla and had a keen interest in earth science and geography. He loved to read, travel, and learn new things. Life was an adventure for him. Dr. Spooner died suddenly on January 19, 2010. The scholarship is awarded to high school graduates as they begin their adventure in college/university of their choice. The student must have exhibited good character, demonstrated good citizenship, and participated in extracurricular activities.

  • The Donalie Stormes Scholarship was established in spring 2010. During her twelve years teaching at Rolla High School, Mrs. Donalie Stormes taught English, worked with Student Council, Link Crew, and the Student 2 Student program. In May 2009, Donalie received the Rolla Public Schools Human Award, one of the highest educator honors in the RPS district. She was also the 2009 South Central Student Council Advisor of the Year. On Tuesday, December 8, 2009, Donalie lost her battle with breast cancer. The scholarship is to be used for a STUCO student in grades 9-12 to attend the Missouri Association of Student Council Leadership Academy during summer break.

  • This scholarship was established in 1986 in memory of Greg Sweeney, a 1986 Rolla High School graduate, who was killed in an automobile accident on Sunday, June 29, 1986. For graduating classes in odd-numbered years, the scholarship will be awarded to a boy who participated in the wrestling program at RHS. For graduating classes in even-numbered years, the scholarship will be awarded to a boy or girl who has participated in the painting and drawing program in the Art Department while at RHS.

  • This scholarship was established by Glendene Venable to honor her husband, Raymond Venable, who taught Physical Chemistry at UMR for more than 30 years. Recipients must have been in Mrs. Venable’s math class at some time while at Wyman Elementary School. If no applicants from her math class, then the scholarship will be awarded to any student who received help after school from Mrs. Venable.

  • The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Rolla High School graduate who plans to major in music or music education at a college or university. The names of annual recipients will be placed on a plaque to be displayed at a suitable location in Rolla High School.

  • The Thomas Whitefield Award was established in memory of Thomas Whitefield, Rolla High School Varsity Soccer #8, 1999-2002. This scholarship is presented to the male and female soccer players who best demonstrate outstanding character, leadership, citizenship, and personality, and in so doing earn the respect of their teammates.

    This scholarship was established in 1985 by family, friends, teachers, coaches, local businesses, and organizations in memory of Tammy Pease, who died in an automobile accident returning to the University of Kansas after Thanksgiving break in 1985. Tammy was an exceptional swimmer, student, friend, role model, and leader. She was a 1982 graduate of Rolla High School.

    Tammy competed at the regional and national levels in swimming throughout high school while taking a challenging honors curriculum. After high school graduation, she attended KU on a swimming scholarship and was the KU swim team captain her senior year. While at KU she was an 11-time NCAA Division I All-American Athlete and competed in the 1984 Olympic Swimming Trials in the 100M freestyle and 100M breaststroke. The Tammy Pease Student Athlete Scholarship is awarded to a female scholar athlete who has excelled in both athletics and academics while demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and character.

     

    1. The applicant must be a Rolla High School senior female student athlete who has been

    accepted to a college or university.

    2. The applicant must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.25.

    3. The applicant must have competed athletically at the club or high school championship-

    level in her sport at the state, regional, or national level during high school. Selection to any All-

    Conference, All-District, or All-State athletic honors satisfies this requirement.

    4. The applicant should be the recipient of athletic achievement honors; team captain, team

    MVP or conference/district/state/regional/national honors.

    5. The applicant must have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and

    character as a student athlete.

    6. The Awards Committee will determine the recipient and one alternate for the scholarship.

    7. The amount of the scholarship will be $500. If the balance of the account falls below

    $500, then the remaining balance of the account will be awarded. The scholarship check will be

    given directly to the scholarship recipient at the Awards Assembly.
