This prestigious award recognizes the remarkable qualities Terry embodied both on and off the field: strength, humility, leadership, and dedication.

Terry was new to Rolla High that fall, and from the very beginning, he made a lasting impression. Described by his coaches and teammates as a big, gentle soul, Terry was a kind-hearted, soft-spoken young man who always maintained a calm, respectful demeanor—never uttering a curse word. He was someone that everyone could relate to, yet on the field, he transformed into an unstoppable force, anchoring the defensive line for a talented team. Despite his dominating presence during games and practices, Terry's easy-going nature and genuine kindness was apparent on and off the field. He quickly earned the respect of his teammates—not because of his size, but because of his character, dedication, and the way he carried himself as a son, student, player, and teammate.

Midway through that unforgettable season, Terry earned the "Player of the Game" honor after a big Friday night victory. He accepted the recognition with a humble smile and a few words, as was his way. Tragically, that same night, Terry and another player were involved in a devastating car accident. While the Rolla High School community mourned the loss of this young man with such promise, his memory lived on in the hearts of those who knew him.

In tribute to his spirit and leadership, Terry's parents and the coaching staff decided to create an award that would celebrate the qualities Terry exemplified. The Terry Neal Memorial Award has been presented annually ever since, recognizing a senior football player who demonstrates the same exceptional leadership, sportsmanship, courage, and heart that Terry displayed. This award honors those who show love for the game, lead with integrity, and make sacrifices for the team, all while remaining humble and respectful.
