The Rolla High School Gym was built when the student population was less than half the current number. This project includes the construction of a new field house with approximately 2000 seats. The existing gym will be converted into an 800-seat auditorium to serve our excellent fine arts programs. New, larger instrumental and vocal music classrooms will provide needed space for our programs. A connecting lobby will serve both the field house and auditorium.
September 2022 Update: The new field house must be constructed prior to vacating and renovating the existing gym, so when you drive down Cedar Street and see the big hole, that’s phase one of the new facility. The glass hallway off the main office has been blocked off and will be removed over the course of construction. A few structural pieces have been addressed in the existing gym over the past few months while crews have better access to the space. The stage in the gym is closed off, but the gym will be open and functional for students and competitions this year. The new field house is expected to be complete by the fall of 2023, at which time renovations will begin on what will be the new performing arts center.
January 2023 Update: The field house construction is on schedule to be complete by early summer of 2023, at which time the existing gym will be vacated to begin renovations. On Cedar Street, you can see the mezzanine level of the structure, with the main gym floor below. The corridor between the construction and the existing RHS wall will be enclosed as construction is finalized. At the corner of 10th and Cedar, the storm shelter is being constructed which will house band, drama, and choral arts, as well as serve as a connecter piece between the field house and performing arts center.
