Snow Day Procedures

Rolla Public Schools takes advantage of every resource available to allow parents and employees to find out whether or not school will be in session.

  • Loretta King, Director of Transportation, Superintendent Mr. Craig Hounsom and other staff members begin checking road conditions before 5:00 a.m. on inclement weather days and every effort is made to reach a decision by 6:00 a.m.

  • As soon as a decision is made, several radio and television stations are contacted, an announcement is posted to the District's voice mail (573.458.0101), and a posting is made on the cancellations.com website. The following stations are contacted for announcements of cancellation or early dismissal:
    Radio: KTTR/KZNN (105.3FM), KKID (92.9FM), KUMR (88.5FM)
    TV: KOLR-10, KYTV-3, KRCG-13, KDNL-17.

Each of these stations has slightly different methods or times for making announcements. We are not responsible for when and how the media outlets run their announcements. Please go directly to district media channels for the most up-to-date information.

  • In the event that school has been dismissed for the day, every effort is made to decide by 3:00 p.m. whether or not to return to classes the following day. Waiting until the afternoon allows the city, county, and state as much time as possible to clear roads.

  • SNOW ROUTES ~ There may be times when it is necessary to run snow or emergency routes only. Loretta King can be reached at 573.458.0125 and will be happy to answer your questions about how snow routes differ from the regular routes or view the following Snow Route information.
