On the morning of March 8, 2021, the Rolla Police Department received information indicating a student had expressed intent to bring a weapon to school at Rolla Junior High. Prior to school starting, the student was questioned by police and school administrators. The student was found to be in possession of a weapon, which was confiscated immediately and the student was taken into police custody.

As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are extremely grateful for the swift action of RPD and the RJH staff who ensured this situation was taken care of immediately and in a safe way. RPD continues to diligently investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. We have zero tolerance for violence, weapons, or threats of violence at our schools.

It’s important to note that the timely response of police and school administrators was due to a concerned citizen’s actions, which led to a peaceful resolution of this situation. Parents and guardians, please express to your children the importance of sharing any information about safety concerns both on and off campus. If ever you have information regarding a safety issue within our schools, please report it immediately.
