This past week, Rolla High School has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, and resulting quarantines, which has greatly impacted attendance and learning. We, along with local health officials, have concerns regarding the trend within Rolla High School and the health and safety of our staff and students. In an effort to reduce the student population at Rolla High School on a daily basis, we have decided to transition to a hybrid schedule for students in grades 9-12. This plan will go into effect on October 5, 2020.  In order to allow our staff time to prepare for this shift, there will be no classes Monday through Wednesday; September 28th, 29th, and 30th. Classes on Thursday and Friday; October 1st and 2nd, will be entirely virtual.  All extracurricular activities and practices for Rolla High School are also canceled for the week.

At this time, all other buildings (grades Pre-K through 8) will continue to operate as they have been.

Beginning October 5th, RHS students will be assigned to either the Maroon Group or Gray Group based on their last name. Students will be notified of their group assignment via student email and School Messenger announcements early next week. Families with children who have different last names may request to have both children in the same group by calling the RHS office. The Maroon Group will attend seated classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and learn from home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Gray Group will attend seated classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and learn from home Mondays and Wednesdays. All students will learn virtually on Friday and have scheduled time to connect with their teachers.

RHS students will be responsible for checking in virtually on their non-seated class days. We will still be taking attendance and students will be responsible for continued learning. Assignments will be graded just as during fully seated instruction, and will be managed through Google classroom. If your child does not have a Chromebook or laptop, one will be provided for them to check out and use at home. We also have a limited number of mobile hotspots for families without internet access. Please contact the RHS office for more information.

We will continue to provide meals at no charge for all students. Cafeteria service will operate as it has been for seated days, and students may collect meals to take home for their virtual learning days as they leave the building. All students may pick up meals the week of September 28th, Monday and Wednesday from 10-10:30am in the High School Cafeteria drive.

We appreciate your patience as our plans shift to meet the needs of students, staff and families.  This hybrid schedule was designed as an intermediate step between full-time seated and full-time virtual classes. Our desire is to return to fully-seated classes as soon as possible. We will continue to work with local health officials and we will provide frequent updates throughout this process. As always, the health, safety, and educational experiences of our students are our top priorities. Please reach out to RHS with any questions you may have.
