Dear Rolla Bulldog Families,

Today I am writing to update you regarding the current closure of the Rolla 31 School District.  As you know, the closure began Tuesday, March 17, 2020 and was scheduled to run through Friday, April 3, 2020.  Please be advised that we are extending the closure as of today through Thursday, April 30, 2020.   All co-curricular practices and other after school activities during this time are canceled as well.

I am sure you can appreciate that our plans are fluid and subject to change at any time.  We anticipate further updates as this week progresses.  Our district leadership communicates with many school leaders across the state and receives ongoing guidance from the local and state health departments, The State Department of Education, and CDC.

Watching our teachers, support staff and principals work to develop plans for continued learning support has been and continues to be inspirational.  Now that we have extended the closure, our planning will continue.  Teachers from each building will be planning for a “week at a time” and communicating plans with their principals and to students and parents.

Some thoughts we shared with staff:

Let’s keep things simple, focused and effective.  We do not have to invent the next educational revolution between now and the normal end of the school year.  We are not seeking perfection and we are all learning on the go.

Consider going “Old School”.  Stay connected and just like great teaching; we should not be afraid to use communication variety.

We will all grow through being resilient.  It is an inevitable by-product of our state of things. We might even develop something that has staying power after we return to our traditional school schedules.

We feel for our parents. They should not be worried about regression.  Every kid and every parent is in the same boat.  When we are back in the classrooms, we will all regroup and make the course corrections.  Some of the biggest battles I had with our kids was about homework and studying.  Many of our parents have other things on their plates and we need to support them.

Food distribution began March 30.  We plan to continue to distribute from Truman, RJH and Wyman.  Food delivery will continue via school buses at our scheduled stops. We will assess our efforts and make adjustments. Information has been sent/posted via School Messenger and is located on our website at www.rolla31org.

We are committed to sharing these plans with you as they develop.  This situation continues to change quickly.  Please see the communication planning info below.

Communication Updates
Moving forward, should there be an impact on individual school events, activities or other schedules, that information will be communicated by the district via School Messenger, our website and through our social media sites.
Learning plans will be distributed to each student and/or parent by the individual teacher and the building level website.
